Luke's Little Walk
Who Is Luke?

The Little Walk II

The Appalachian Trail (AT) is approximately 2160 miles in length, running from Mount Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia. In most places the AT is little more than a footpath, running along the ridgelines of the Appalachian Mountains, winding through the scenic, wooded mountains in a glory of hiking paradise. Shelters and side trails dot the AT, and for most of the trail easy access to roads means that hikers can find their way into town for supplies, showers, and those all-important mail drops and phone calls. This is the Little Walk that Luke has embarked upon.

Luke is doing what?

You would be surprised - or perhaps not - at how often I hear that reaction when I explain what Luke has set out to do. Yes, you heard correctly. Luke is walking the Little Walk: 2160 miles of trails through the old Appalachian Mountains. Five months of hiking, of living the “good life” in touch with nature and himself. Can you tell I am positively green with envy? I have often longed myself to thru-hike the AT, and hope someday to follow in Luke's footsteps.

In March 2005, Luke Jennings left Boston, MA on a flight to Georgia, there to begin his hike on the Appalachian Trail. He has turned a dream to reality, and is out there enjoying a life few of us ever experience. This page is in dedication to his Little Walk - and is also a means for all of you out there, friends and family alike, to keep track of Luke's progress.

Where on the trail is Luke Jennings? Click here to find out. And if you have heard from Luke, fill out this form so we can update the site with the latest sighting of the elusive Hobbes!

I have also armed Luke with disposable cameras on his hike, so that we can all take a glimpse of the trail through his eyes! What to see what Luke has seen so far? Click here for pictures of the Little Walk II!

Want to contact Hobbes, our very own Cool Hands? Luke would certainly like to hear from you! You can do so, by sending him a good, old-fashioned letter via the US Postal Service. Click here for a list of Luke's mail drops.

I have archived "Luke's Little Walk (I)" here for those might wish to take a look at his First AT Hike
