Luke's Little Walk
Who Is Luke?

The "AT," as the Appalachian Mountain Trail is commonly referred, is a serious of trails and paths that run from Mount Springer in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine, a distance of approximately 2200 miles. The actual length of the trail differs from one year to the next, as sometimes older trails are closed for a time to repair the trail, and new trails are opened.

The Trail began as a dream to Brenton McKaye, the man commonly accredited with the founding of the Trail. He wrote an article in 1921 entitled, An Appalachian Trail: A Project in Planning. It was this article that paved the way for the founding of the AT.

The AT has since become a dream to many others, and hundres of would-be Thru-Hikers set out upon the Trail every year. (A Thru-Hiker is one who walks the trail from beginning to end, Georgia to Maine or vice-versa.) The average hiker takes five months to walk the distance, and his journey leaves him a different person by the time he reaches the end. It is an experience that few ever have, and those who complete it would never trade.

There is much information on the AT available on the internet these days. When I have the chance, I will add my own words to that list here. Until then, I invite you to follow the Links below to obtain more information on the Appalachian Mountain Trail.
